Pregnancy Options
An unexpected pregnancy can put you in a state of shock and disbelief, especially if you were taking birth control. No matter how you feel about your potential pregnancy, Options for Women is here to help you understand your options and receive the best individualized care in Rochester, NH.
Option #1: Parenting
Pregnancy and motherhood are the most beautiful and significantly life-altering events that I have ever experienced. — Elisabeth Hasselbeck
Carrying and parenting can be wonderful. It will test every fiber of your being at times, yet most women who choose this option will tell you it's worth it.
Pros: You will have a mini-me — someone utterly dependent on you. Yet, this little person will bring you the greatest joy (and frustration). You will get to celebrate milestone moments: first roll, first word, first crawl, first step, first day at school, college graduation, and all the sweet memories in between.
Cons: It’s challenging and will take grit. Raising children is not easy and will require everything you have at times. Society often says you won’t be able to achieve your goals when you have a child, but that’s not true. We’ve seen hundreds of women still go on to accomplish their goals. Make an appointment to find out more.
Option #2: Adoption
I am a living testament you can be adopted and successful. — Daunte Culpepper
Adoption is the least common option due to women struggling with carrying their child for nine months, enduring labor to then place their child in someone's custody. It is a very selfless but difficult choice.
Pros: Although this option is not frequently chosen, it is a courageous and beautiful choice. Many adoptions today are open adoptions, meaning you can still be an intricate part of your child’s life with frequent communication and visits.
Cons: Placing your child for adoption is something you will need to be 100% okay with. When you choose adoption (even open adoption), you surrender not only your parental rights but also your right to see how your child is parented and the right to see their every milestone moment.
Option #3: Abortion
I really didn't know there were two sides to the abortion issue. — Norma McCorvey, AKA Roe.
It’s estimated that nearly one in four women will experience abortion in their reproductive years. Like adoption, abortion is a decision you will have to be completely convinced of because it is a loss. Choosing abortion may come with moments of grief as well as emotional and physical discomfort.
Pros: Abortion is not a cut-and-dry issue. You will find women who believed abortion was the right decision for them. You will find just as many women who regret their decision. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to choose.
Cons: Some women experience reproductive health issues and mental health struggles following their abortion. Abortion is a medical procedure and comes with its own set of risks. Some women have admitted to struggling with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts after their abortion.
